When it comes to many men, their first love is always their mother and many men will do anything if it came to saving their mom’s life. Well, West-Philadelphia native, Jermaine showed he would do just that.

After getting a call that his moms apartment building was on fire, the thirty-five year old rushed over to make sure she was ok. With confirmation from firemen and the police that the building was on fire, he first wanted to go in through the door, but it was already closed off for everyone’s security.

That was going to work for Jermaine. Using his experience as a roofer and  construction worker, Jermaine begin to climb the 19 story building to the 15th floor where his bedridden mother would be. Prepared to check on her and her boyfriend, Jermaine was even prepared to save her if needed, but the fire was contained by the time he got to her room.

“I took it upon myself because that’s my mother. There’s no limits. That’s my mother,” Jermaine tells Philadelphia’s WPVI in an interview. “She was more shocked. She’s not surprised by the things that I do for her. She knows I’ll go over and beyond for her.”

After confirming that his mother was ok, Jermaine took the climb all the way back down 15 stories to face the first responders who told him not take that risk. When it’s your mom though, to do nothing is not an option.

To make this situation even crazier, Jermaine was capable of doing this all from pure LOVE and Adrenaline as earlier that day, he cracked his hip from falling.

Our main focus is to be able to change the perception of black men in the world as well as create a community of black men who are willing and wanting to be leaders for the future. We look to do this by focusing on the problems we never discuss that pertains to the mental health of black boys and men. Nothing can change, if we don't change our mindsets.
