Actor, John Boyega and his Upper Room Productions company looks to take Nollywood to the next level. Recently the Star Wars actor signed a deal with Netflix to develop non-english films that will focus on west and east Africa.
“UpperRoom will develop film projects based on stories, cast, characters, crew, literary properties, mythology, screenplays and/or other elements in or around African countries,” Netflix states.
“I am thrilled to partner with Netflix to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories, and my team and I are excited to develop original material,” said Boyega in a statement. “We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision.”
If anyone has been on Netflix recently, they have seen that their have been a good amount of African movies and series that have been added to the streaming platform. From Lionheart, Crazy People, Payday, The Accidental Spy and many many more.
