Throughout history, black people have had to endure so much more to claim greatness. Well the story isn’t any different when it comes to the first-ever Black Heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Johnson. Recently announced, HBO will be releasing a limited series titled, ‘Unruly’ that shows the rise of Johnson and what he went through all due to the color of his skin as he will be played by Mahershala Ali.
Based on the Ken Burns documentary Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson and the book by Geoffrey C. Ward. Set to be now written by Dominique Morisseau who wrote the book for Broadway’s Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations. This series will be executive produced by Morisseau, Ali, Willimon and Tom Hanks.
