Discover Big Springs Park: A Family-Friendly Oasis in McDonough

I recently took my daughter on a delightful adventure to Big Springs Park in McDonough, Georgia. This family friendly park is nestled at 64 Veterans Street. Located about 3 blocks from the heart of downtown McDonough, this park offers a serene escape with its expansive green spaces and delivers a family-friendly place to go while in Henry County.

Big Springs Park boasts two well-maintained playground areas that cater to children of all ages. My daughter was thrilled to explore the diverse play structures, which include slides, swings, and climbing frames. The equipment is designed to be inclusive, ensuring that children of all abilities can join in the fun. The soft, mulched ground provides a safe environment for energetic play.

The main things I love about this park is if you have a child that loves to pretend to be a ninja warrior and likes obstacles, the larger park for bigger kids will be great for them. From the tightropes, jungle jims and more, this part of the park will definitely help those little ones to get all of that energy out to make for a great good nights rest. Right beside the playground that is for bigger kids, they have a toddler playground that focuses on sensory and music. From large drums, big xylophones and other climbing objects, babies and toddlers will be able to burn some energy as well as make as much noise as their little hearts can endure.

Beyond the playgrounds, the park spans 15 acres and features two lighted baseball fields, perfect for local games or casual play. For those who enjoy a leisurely walk or jog, there’s a two-mile paved walking/jogging track that meanders through the park’s lush landscape. We took a relaxing stroll, enjoying the natural beauty and the tranquil ambiance. To add to the beautiful scenery of this park, they have a small lake with a water fountain in the middle of it that is nice to checkout. If you love wild life, it is worth the walk across the street as you can see many birds in the area and turtles love to play and stay in the lake as well.

The park also offers two picnic pavilions, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings or a simple outdoor lunch. A concession stand is available during events, providing refreshments to visitors.

One of the standout features of Big Springs Park is its commitment to accessibility. The playground areas are designed to be wheelchair-accessible, ensuring that every child can participate in the fun. Additionally, the park’s layout is accommodating for strollers and wheelchairs, making it convenient for families with young children or members with mobility challenges.

Big Springs Park is open daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, providing ample time for visitors to enjoy its offerings. Located at 64 Veterans Street in McDonough, GA 30253, it’s easily accessible and offers ample parking for guests.

Our visit to Big Springs Park was a refreshing experience that combined fun, relaxation, and quality family time. The well-maintained facilities, inclusive play areas, and serene environment make it a must-visit destination for families in and around McDonough. Whether you’re looking to let your kids burn off some energy, enjoy a peaceful walk, or have a picnic under the trees, Big Springs Park has something for everyone.
